Okay what causes a PS3 hardware failure (YLoD)? Could it be the HDD causing the problem? I ask because I swapped my 60GB HDD with a 250GB one, so if my PS3 gets YLoD (God forbid), then to save all my save games and stuff couldnt I replace the 250GB HDD with the 60GB HDD when I send it to Sony to get it repaired then put the 250GB one back in when I get the PS3 back? Or would this just cause the replacement PS3 to get hardware failure as well? Its just that its not Hardware Failure that worries me, its losing all my save data and trophies.
Many people have seen this before as it has become a common issue for the Playstation 3 console.
The sysmptoms include the power light going to green then yellow and finally blinking red.
The first possibility is that the power supply is faulty and needs to be replaced. This is not too bad because you could pick one up for under
$50.00 Us.
The second and most common problem is that as your Playstation 3 heats up it begins to separate the cpu and gpu from the motherboard and this will cause the yellow light of death to occur. The solution to this is a little more involved but can be accomplished.Below is a video tutorial on how to repair the ylod yourself.Of course there are no guarantees that this will work for everyone. If this does not work you can always buy a replacement motherboard for under $100.00 US.
